Hospice care can be provided in a person's home or at an assisted living facility or nursing home. However, if a person's symptoms become too difficult or complex to manage, residential hospice care may be very beneficial. The staff at Quiet Oaks are experts at managing pain, nausea, breathing difficulties, anxiety and other debilitating symptoms that may be present as terminal illness progresses. Additionally, providing the atmosphere of a home, nestled in the woods and many other supportive services - Quiet Oaks gives you a "warm hug" from the minute you walk in the door.
Hospice care begins with the determination that life expectancy of a person is 6 months or less. Hospice is not about giving up--it is just extra care and shifting the focus from cure to quality and comfort. A referral to hospice can be obtained from a physician or from a hospice agency assessment. Here is our list of hospice agencies that Quiet Oaks works with. Your loved one, however, does not need to be enrolled with a hospice agency prior to admission, although we strongly encourage you to reach out to an agency for support regardless of placement.
Residents may come to Quiet Oaks at any point in their hospice journey. Although the length of stay for each resident varies, previous experiences have ranged from as little as a few hours to as long as a few years. Most residents are with us for 1-2 weeks and we often hear that they wish they would've come to stay with us sooner.
Bring anything the resident would like or that makes their stay more comfortable. Pillows, pajamas, pictures, books, sentimental items, lotions, and flowers are all welcome. Daily medications may be brought from home or Quiet Oaks will make arrangements for medications.
Quiet Oaks has eight private resident suites that all provide full-sized adjustable beds, a large recliner, a TV with streaming services, an on-suite bathroom and an oversized picture window with scenic views and bird feeders. Each resident room is also equipped with a nurse call light button and a camera system for continued monitoring.
